QuaverHealth•PE: Designed for optimum results
By Kristin Clark Taylor
Listen to her speak, you know it right away: Renita Searcy feels strongly about QuaverHealth•PE.
Searcy, who teaches physical education at Whispering Pines Elementary in Humble, Texas, says she relies on the comprehensive health and PE curriculum every single day.
“As a P.E. teacher, I’m all over the place, and I depend on QuaverHealth•PE to keep everything in order,” she says.
And while she certainly appreciates the organizational benefits, her gratitude runs far deeper than that.
Searcy is comfortable and confident using the curriculum in ways that allow her to be the most impactful P.E. teacher she can possibly be.
“I use the back-to-school activities, the warm-ups, the videos, and the full lessons — and that’s just the quick list,” she says.
Searcy also appreciates the ease-of-use that the resource provides.
Being able to access Quaver’s comprehensive curriculum provides her students exactly what they need, exactly when they need it.
“I feel fortunate to have found a resource that helps me give my very best to my students.”
The Texas educator also strongly believes in teaching by example, yet another reason she relies on QuaverHealth•PE as a primary resource.
“It’s very important for elementary students to see how a skill is actually performed,” she says.
“I always demonstrate every single skill myself, so my partner and I, Coach Wheeler, work together to ensure that our students are seeing and understanding everything we teach.”
Searcy and Wheeler rely on Quaver’s P.E. lessons and visuals to reinforce the concepts and provide additional perspective.
Being able to see other students performing the tasks, she says, gives their students a vantage point they can easily relate to.
Learning to jump rope, she says, is the perfect example.
“Our students love Quaver’s jump rope lessons, because it shows how students their age are performing the skill,” Searcy observes.
“Seeing someone who looks like them creates a level of trust and enthusiasm.”
Searcy also places high priority on teaching the fundamentals in P.E., emphasizing that a focus on skills-based learning benefits every student.
“Not every kid is an athlete, which is why I try hard to appeal to the non-athletic student as well,” she readily concedes.
“QuaverHealth•PE focuses on the fundamentals, and they break everything down so that the lessons are relatable and relevant to everybody.”
“My goal is to engage all my students – even the ones who might not even like P.E.,” she says with conviction. “Quaver helps me do just that.”
But perhaps the greatest gift of all, according to Searcy, is Quaver’s ability “to help students feel comfortable and confident in their own bodies.”
The lessons are designed to embrace the entirety of the learning experience, Searcy explains — even if the experience includes making mistakes along the way.
“Failure is really hard for this generation,” she observes.
“Lots of kids don’t realize that part of learning any new skill usually involves a few stumbles along the way.”
Clearly, when it comes to teaching lessons about resilience, self-discovery, and exploration, Searcy and QuaverHealth•PE form the perfect team.
Because these are lessons that will last a lifetime.
