Explore social awareness and ways in which students can show respect to their families and their homes this holiday season!
This holiday season, it’s important to celebrate the little things. This might mean new kinds of holiday traditions, new favorite holiday songs, or maybe even more time with family and caregivers.
As we celebrate the December holidays, take five minutes with your students to encourage the importance of respect at home.
Explore two resources from Quaver SEL that demonstrate ways that students can show respect for their families and their homes this holiday season.
Respect For My Family
You’ll find this song in the SELMusic Library by searching “Respect for My Family.”
This song is a great way to reinforce ways that students can show respect to their families at home. Maybe that means putting their phone away, or helping to take care of chores such as wrapping gifts or preparing a meal.
Students may be spending more time at home than ever and while tensions could be high, this song acknowledges strategies for remaining calm and respectful towards our parents, siblings, and other loved ones
Family Manners, Family Matters
This screen is for students to practice identifying different places in the home and different people in the family that they can show respect. Students will click on the highlighted areas that need changing and that show an example of respect.
Encourage students to consider the following questions:
- What would happen if the characters on the screen didn’t change what they were doing?
- What different feelings do you see in the situation?
